Current Projects

Friends of ANSC kicked off a capital campaign in 2019 to raise $250,000 which will help build three physical projects on the property and provide funding for ongoing landscaping and maintenance needs.

1 | DINO PIT SHADE PROJECT
The Dino Pit is one of the most utilized areas at the Austin Nature and Science Center but families currently have no protection from the Texas sun. This project will add shading, additional seating, and thematic enhancements that have been carefully considered to improve the family experience and preserve the educational play.

2 | TREEHOUSE PROJECT
The treehouse is a brand new project for the Austin Nature and Science Center that will transform an underutilized area of the property. The accessible treehouse design will encourage children to collaborate and explore while also providing a space for hosting diverse school and community events.


3 | PERGOLA PROJECT
The pergola is a brand new project for the Austin Nature and Science Center that will provide protection from the heat and sun in the outdoor learning area, allowing this space to become a true extension of the classroom.

LANDSCAPING FUND
The landscaping fund will be used to make the trails safer and more enjoyable for visitors as well as protect the educational plants and natural habitat. Currently, there is only one person on staff keeping up with all landscaping responsibilities.

MAINTENANCE FUND
The maintenance fund will be used by staff to address over 30 general maintenance needs related to security, safety, and well-being of visitors and animal residents.
